I haven’t had any internet connection through RCN since last night. I called their support line today and was told (after being run through several tests) that their service was actually down for the DC area and they have no time estimate for fixing it. Looking online, though, I can’t find any indication that this is a local/widespread issue.

It really should not be an issue with newer equipment. If you try it a few times and it works, buy a timer to automate the process for you.
