A 50ah Lifepo4 for 120ish bucks is what you want for that bait rod. WIll last a 4 day deep drop trip without recharging. Recharges pretty quick if need be. You are right, for popping you want the 18000 for the faster retrieve. I started out using a 20k as "double duty" and the extra line capacity. I was SHOCKED when I actually got an 18k.
